The Orangery café is all about being ‘local’, supporting our communities and artisan suppliers; from the milk in your coffee to the meat and vegetables on your plate. You can be assured that we will take the highest care in sourcing food from high quality local suppliers wherever possible. We consider this to be fundamental to our objectives.
Tom and Leanne Klinkenberg have owned the Powderham Farm Shop business for several years and have overseen its continued success in delivering high quality and locally resourced products. They are now taking on the restaurant and alongside their team are using all their combined experience and enthusiasm to improve and develop the Orangery Café & Bistro, their objective is to create a relaxed and friendly environment, whilst ensuring that the food is served to a consistently high standard and at an affordable cost.
We are seeking to increase the operational hours of the Bistro, and in the future will be open during selected evenings, giving to the local community a new venue for socialising.
We invite you to visit us and relax and soak in the views of Powderham Castle and the Deer Park Estate extending to the Exe estuary, whilst enjoying a coffee, and perhaps even a bite to eat.
Hope to see you soon.
The Orangery philosophy is to ensure that all food is fresh, and wherever possible it is locally sourced. Our meat will be given daily from our butcher within the farm shop, and seasonable vegetables are dug from the ground within the walled garden at Powderham and from local growers. We live in a part of the country that has a wealth of local food sources, and our menu is designed to take full advantage of this.
Come and join us and sample for yourself the true joy of Devon sourced food delivered fresh to your plate with a smile.
Home to the Earl of Devon, Lord Charles Courtenay (19th Earl of Devon), wife AJ and their children. Both Charlie and AJ are pillars in the local community, and are consistently supportive of our local community matters and fund raising events.
Powderham Castle is over 600 years old, and benefits from a wealth of history for both the county of Devon and the Courtenay family. The 14th century manor house is open to the public and has much to explore within its castle gates and stunning estate grounds. Whilst visiting us at the orangery, why not visit Powderham Castle and sample the castle’s family oriented offerings; from the castle and its history, beautiful walks and gardens; to the exciting and fun children’s play area and animal petting area within the walled garden.
We deliver – a promise
local fresh food delivered to your table with a smile and a huge welcome!

Meet our Head Chef, Scott. Scott is a classically trained chef who has over 25 years of high-end service not only in fine dining restaurants, hotels and sporting stadiums, but across the globe too.
Over 7 years ago, Scott was tempted by the abundance of sustainable fish provision, fresh locally grown foods and his love for the sea, after a childhood holidaying in Dawlish, and moved his family to the South West. During those 7 years, Scott has built up teams to produce 2 rosette standard food, achieved semi-final places in 2 South West Chef of the Year competitions and has worked to develop and deliver nutritional school meals to thousands of children across the South West region.
Scott works with key local suppliers to find the quality in the produce that his team will work to showcase on your plates. It’s fair to say that Scott is very passionate about food and he is looking forward to creating dishes with his team that represent the best the South West has to offer.
